All over Ottawa and the Valley!

Who Are the Bootscooters?

YOU Are!

The Y101 Boot Scooters would like to thank all of our friends and supporters for your continued support throughout 2009.  We had a very successful year raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation Eastern Ontario, as well as, many other local charities and causes and we could not do this without your participation & support.  That being said, we are already busy planning our next Fundraising events for 2010.  Please mark on your calendars and forward to family, friends, neighbours and co-workers that would like to spend a day having fun and contribute to making a difference in a child's life!

History

The original Y101 Boot Scooters fundraising team was created 15 years ago by Mark Papousek. Mark gathered individuals together to actively volunteer and fundraise within our community and the surrounding area. In the beginning, Mark and his team participated in the Labatt 24 Hour Relay in support of the Royal Ottawa Health Care Foundation. Over a period of 7 years this team raised $50,000 for the Royal Ottawa Health Care Foundation, which earned them a distinctive recognition award from the charity for achieving such an accomplishment.

In 1998, the Boot Scooters decided to hold their 1st annual Y101 Boot Scooters Charity Golf Tournament. The 1st and 2nd annual golf tournaments supported the Royal Ottawa Health Care Foundation along with the Make-A-Wish Foundation (Ottawa Chapter). Since then, The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Eastern Ontario has become The Y101 Boot Scooters primary recipient and throughout the years we have sponsored numerous children with life-threatening illnesses.

For the past 2 years, we have committed to an annual $5,000 donation to the Oncology Department at CHEO in honor of one of our long time friends and supporters, Brian Norton, who recently succumbed to cancer. In addition to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, in 2007, we made donations to other worthy causes such as: Support Our Troops (Families of Fallin Soldiers) The Snow Suit Fund; Serge Giroux Golf Dream Tournament and several other initiatives.

The Y101 Boot Scooters have extended fundraising events to include two annual Curling Fun-Spiel tournaments and a New Year's Eve dinner & dance. Our small group of volunteers has developed a credible history, and local businesses & individuals are starting to help through satellite groups; on behalf of and in conjunction with the Y101 Boot Scooters, the RBC Royal Bank Mortgage Specialists Golf Tournament helped us exceed our goal in 2007 by raising approx. $10,000.

The Y101 Boot Scooters are very proud to report that we have raised over $200,000 in the past 15 years together. It is most satisfying to see the smile on a child’s face when a wish comes true and this certainly could not be accomplished without the support of our community, business partners and individuals who believe that we can make a difference!
